18 karat yellow gold, fine sterling silver, opal and diamond bee brooch/pendant. This ingenious Edwardian style bee brooch is fashioned in silver and gilded in 18ct gold on the back. The body and wings are decorated with an array of rose cut diamonds (approx. 1.70ct total) with a pair of cabochon sapphire eyes and two colourful jelly opals, weighing approx. 0.60ct and 2ct, on the thorax and abdomen. Jelly Opal is more transparent than regular Opal, and has a gelatinous appearance that creates a more even colouration to the stones inner fire. This fire ranges from green to orange and shifts in the light as though alive. The brooch’s wings and head are articulated in a lifelike fashion. The wings can lie flat along the side of the insect’s body or move forward as though in flight. It’s a cleverly constructed piece and highly unique.
